Asset Tracing Services

Criminals involved in business crime have one fundamental aim: to steal money from victims - this money is then laundered so that it is difficult to trace and recover. Because of the sophistication of these criminals, combined with the increasingly global marketplace and financial world, stolen funds can be moved across the world and hidden in nano-seconds. In these cases whilst, it is important to identify what has happened and who is responsible, the overriding aim of our activities is to identify and recover assets for our clients.

The wide range of vehicles available to hide stolen funds is almost bewildering. Whilst funds obtained by fraud and money laundering usually have to pass through an initial bank account - or series of bank accounts - they can then be laundered and invested into such assets as:

• Property (residential & commercial)
• Aircraft
• Cars
• Fine Art
• Jewellery
• Offshore companies
• Trusts
• Stocks & shares
• Gold and other precious metals

Bearing in mind that most financial crime of any significant monetary value will almost certainly be international in scope and involve cross border transactions, the task of identifying and recovering assets is a complex one.

However we have considerable global experience in identifying and recovering assets. This has involved managing complex fraud and asset recovery cases and identifying, protecting and recovering stolen assets. We have carried out successful projects involving locating assets in such countries as:

• United States
• Switzerland
• Austria
• Liechtenstein
• Spain
• France
• United Kingdom
• Mexico
• Saudi Arabia
• Italy
• The Netherlands
• Luxembourg
• Numerous offshore locations

We are able to provide our clients with proven methodologies and the latest tools for investigation, evidence gathering and asset location to freeze and seize funds. Our in-house abilities together with our global network of contacts ensure that we are able to provide a worldwide coverage. Additionally we have substantial experience in developing overall winning strategies in asset tracing projects, taking into account such factors as:

• Practical and cost implications
• Parallel civil and criminal procedures
• Co-ordination of all involved
• Interviewing witnesses and those suspected of being involved
• The impact and consequences of publicity and media coverage
• Strategic and practical implications of information gathering and admissible evidence
• Identifying which targets give you the greatest chance of recovery
• The point at which relevant authorities are involved, and ongoing co-operation and liaison with such bodies

We are also happy to discuss and consider various ways of clients funding asset tracing exercises. For more information or to arrange an initial consultative meeting please contact us.
